The new novel by Burhan Sönmez, titled “Neynika Sor” (The Red Mirror), has been published by Avesta Publishing House. This book focuses on memory, death, and expectation. In this work, the author takes readers into the dark seas of memory. After writing five novels in Turkish, Sönmez began writing in Kurdish. “Neynika Sor” is the author's second novel in the Kurdish language.
The Author's Life and International Work
The Kurdish writer was born in the district of Haymana. Sönmez graduated from Istanbul University, Faculty of Law. While working as a human rights lawyer, he was severely injured in a police assault. Due to political reasons, the writer moved to Britain and underwent long-term medical treatment in London. He currently serves as the President of PEN International and is a fellow at Cambridge University.
Literary Awards and Other Cultural Work
Sönmez’s novels have been translated into more than 50 languages. The writer has received many prestigious awards, such as the Hemingway and Vaclav Havel awards. He has served on the juries of numerous international events. Sönmez has also written for prominent newspapers such as La Repubblica, Der Spiegel, and The Guardian.
