"We wanted to free Kurdish journalism from the influence of Turkish translation"
"Ajansa Welat" has been established in Diyarbakir as a Kurdish-language news agency. Editor in Chief of the agency Bilal Guldem, spoke to Botan Times about this newly opened agency:
Ajansa Welat (AW) began broadcasting with the slogan "Voice and Color of the Homeland." This is something sacred and exciting for us. We want to become the voice and color of our people. We want to inform our people through Kurdish journalism. We started our broadcasting at a difficult time when journalists are being detained daily and facing pressure. The authorities want to obstruct people's right to receive news and information. Therefore, we want to be the voice of society and share all the pain, suffering, and pride of our people with the world.
Assimilation and self-assimilation are increasing among Kurds. We want to prevent this, even if only slightly, through Kurdish journalism. We want to establish a Kurdish-conscious mindset among Kurds through Kurdish journalism. We wanted to free Kurdish journalism from the influence of Turkish translation. Therefore, we want to create and prepare news in Kurdish, without translation, to inform the public. This step we are taking in the field of news agency work is a new page in the history of Kurdish media. That is, it's the first time an agency broadcasts purely in Kurdish. This is a source of pride and excitement for us. We especially call on our people to follow, read, and share our agency. May "Ajansa Welat" be blessed for our people.
